Abstract

Radiation-induced light emission (RLE) spectrum of pure silica core optical fiber is measured under intense γ-irradiation of a source 60Co. It is shown that the spectrum is subjected to deformation due to high degree of reabsorption caused by γ-induced color centers. The method of measurement and calculation of true spectrum of emission in optical fibers is created. The formula of true intensity I(λ) obtained within the method takes into account the optical losses coefficient from registered RLE intensity value and allows to plot the true spectrum. The true RLE spectra of pure-silica core fiber irradiated at different integrated doses are measured and plotted using this method. It is shown that the method can be used to obtain the true RLE spectra of optical fibers under various types of irradiation.
