The war has had the effect of stimulating research upon visual and auditory perception, mechanical and other special abilities, and various aspects of achievement (38). There is continued interest in factor analysis as a method of isolating special abilities (28, 46, 138, 139). The relationships between special abilities and interests continue to receive attention (78). Variations from ordinary pencil and paper technics in testing include the use of subjective judgments and increased use of apparatus (151). Practices in the army and navy (29) suggest, as do other lines of evidence, that strict lines of demarcation between tests
