Abstract

The birefringence of photonic crystal fiber is measured by wavelength scanning method with the Sagnac loop configuration. Both the accuracy of using the empirical formula \({B_{\rm m} \propto \lambda^{b}}\) in the prediction of modal birefringence, Bm, and the error of neglecting the wavelength dependent term in the calculation of Bm from the measurement data, are discussed and examined in this paper.
