Abstract

The present paper presents a CO 2 laser system that works in the IR region of the spectrum (10.6 μm), and that can be used for measurement and analysis of mechanical vibrations from high distances. The system utilizes the Doppler shift due to surface motion, and the frequency structure of the reflected light is obtained from the spectrum of the photocurrent of the detector. By analysing this spectrum information can be obtained about the frequency and amplitude of the vibrations.
