Abstract

In this paper, according to the problem of improving power quality in power distribution systems, measurement and analysis of middle Egypt distribution network (MEDN) is proposed as a case study. This work is considered as a part of a research project for developing and improving Egyptian distribution networks. In this paper, the measured results (data) show that the voltage profile disturbances is considered as a big power quality problem in the MEDN. The measurement and analysis for the proposed distribution system are done using power analyzer. Reactive power compensation using capacitor banks is suggested to be a suitable solution for improving the voltage profile. A novel Hybrid Particle Swarm (HPSO) optimization algorithm is implemented to find the optimal solutions of capacitor banks placement and sizing problems. Loss sensitivity factor (LSF) is used to elect the most critical buses for capacitor sitings. The numerical results show that the capability with high performance of the proposed scheme to improve the voltage profile disturbances leading to improve the system power quality, minimize the system losses, correct power factor, and maximize the net savings. The results have been procured by using Matlab package.
