Abstract
Meanjin has been Australia's major literary magazine and Clem Christesen its most important literary magazine editor. It is good then that an anthology of Meanjin has been published to celebrate its achievement and to reintroduce its work to the general public. This anthology, however, is marred by the exclusion of Dorothy Green while not including overseas contributors or articles on the visual arts, ballet and classical music, and gives misleading version of its past. The anthology does, however, include some extremely fine writing, such as contributions by Judith Wright, Marjo-rie Barnard and Peter Porter. Australia needs not only anthologies such as this but also critical studies of its major journals.
