Abstract
The mean lives of some excited states of 41K have been measured using the Doppler shift attenuation method. The reaction 40Ar(p, gamma )41K has been used, with argon gas providing a variable-density stopper for the recoiling 41K ions. In particular, a mean life of 13.4+or-0.5 ps has been obtained for the 3-/2 level at 1582 keV, which has recently been mentioned as a possible candidate for parity-mixing measurements.
