Abstract

The highest reversal floor and expected number of stops of the individual lift cars are parameters required for lift systems design. Formulae for these two important parameters are derived for the general traffic condition of interfloor traffic and unequal traffic demand and population, based on the assumption that passenger arrivals at each floor are Poisson distributed and some of the passengers use the stairs instead of the lift. Based on these formulae, values for the round trip time have been obtained and the resultant differences from values of the round trip time obtained using previous formulae for highest reversal floor and expected number of stops are discussed.
