Abstract

A mean field approach which emphasizes spin-spin pair correlations is used to calculate the d.c. isothermal magnetic susceptibility χ of metallic spin glasses. Finite-temperature effects and intrinsic sd scattering of electrons by magnetic ions play important roles in establishing the structure of χ. The result is a parameter-free expression which reveals a cusp in χ at the freezing temperature T g . The sharpness of the cusp is shown to increase with an increase in either the concentration of magnetic ions or the magnitude S of spins in the metallic spin glass.
