Abstract

A mean-field analysis is developed for a mixed Ising ferrimagnetic system consisting of spin- 1/2 and spin-1 with different transverse fields, which may have potential applications in thermomagnetic recording and magneto-optical readout systems. The phase diagram and the thermal behaviors of magnetizations are studied. We find that a compensation point induced by the different transverse fields is obtained, as well as the typical temperature dependencies of magnetization usually found in crystalline (or amorphous) ferrimagnetic alloys, although the system never exhibits any compensation point for the zero transverse fields.
