Abstract

The mean cycle slip time of a first-order phase-locked loop with sinusoidal limiter phase detector is evaluated to account for the dependence of the loop noise spectrum on the phase error. It is shown that neglecting this dependence leads to a considerable underestimation of the mean cycle slip time. Numerical results superior to those for the multiplier type phase detector are reported.
