Abstract

The article is devoted to a comparative analysis of Saltykov-Shchedrin’s fairy tale “Konyaga” and the story “Klyacha” by Mocher Sforim. The texts are compared in order to find connections between Russian and Jewish literature. The comparison shows that Mocher Sforim was well acquainted with both works of Russian classical literature and Russian folklore. However, M. E. Saltykov-Schedrin had a particularly strong influence on him (the image of Glupsk as a Jewish version of the famous town of Glupov and other ideological and figurative parallels). A comparative analysis of the works under consideration allows us to assert that the works of Mocher Sforim were influenced by the works of Russian writers.
