Abstract

Mitochondrial reactive oxygen species are important anti-microbial weapons utilized by phagocytes of the innate immune system. In this issue of Cell Host and Microbe, Abuaita etal. (2018) show that in macrophages, mitochondrial-derived vesicles deliver the superoxide dismutase Sod2 to bacteria-containing phagosomes to produce hydrogen peroxide and kill invading bacteria.
