Abstract

In the era of major therapeutic advances, integrative medicine (IM) brings together conventional medicine and unconventional therapeutic practices in a global, humanistic and multidisciplinary approach. Based on patient-centered care, IM refers to cultural specificities to best meet individuals and collectives needs. Open to other medical and non-medical disciplines as well as those of civil society, IM is grounded on a rigorous scientific approach of research and evaluation which guarantees good practices and safety. In thoracic oncology IM offers a wide range of practical applications such as: announcement program, personalized care program and early supportive care. The French Polynesian experience shows that this new medical approach brings together conventional and traditional medicine promoting humanized care and well-being.
