Abstract

There are many factors affecting electromagnetic responses of marine controlled source electromagnetic (MCSEM) survey. The paper shows 3D modeling of MCSEM with volume integral equation method to study how the factors, here including sea water thickness, source location, two parallel reservoirs, and two overlying reservoirs, affect the detection of marine hydrocarbon with MCSEM method. It aims to give a guide for field survey design. The modeling suggests that reasonable thick water can help restraining air wave, and bipole source should be placed enough deeply. It is also indicated that two parallel or overlying reservoirs may be recognized in the case of well designed survey.
