Abstract

The correlation tensors of the electromagnetic field in the halfspace z ⩾ 0 are calculated. To this aim the Maxwell- Langevin theory is used. The field is generated by the thermal polarization fluctuations of zero correlation length in the dielectric halfspace z < 0. It is shown that in the frame of the scalar correlation theory the dielectric halfspace can be replaced by a partially coherent planar source at z = 0. Some well known scalar theory relations between source correlation functions and radiometric quantities are verified.
