Abstract

A new approach to interference reduction in digital subscriber line (DSL) networks is presented, which models the cross-coupling in DSL network as a multi-input, multi-output (MIMO) system. A constrained optimization technique is then used to improve the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the lines by reducing the cross-coupling between the DSL lines. This is accomplished by assigning the lines to the customers in a way by which the interaction between the lines over the data frequency band is minimized. To achieve this, it is assumed that one may assign the DSL lines to the customers independently of their own phone lines.
