Abstract
The average patient being treated in the healthcare systems of the United States is getting larger. As a consequence, concern about the safety of those healthcare providers who move these patients is increasing. Solutions to minimize risk are focused on utilizing lift and other transfer equipment in combination with modifying policies to mandate their use. However, the obstacles of changing traditional practices and limited research regarding possible hindrance to the patient rehabilitation potential continue to make transition difficult.
