Abstract

The Wireless sensor network is made of many sensor nodes that senses and transmit the data to the base station. The sensors which do not sense or function properly is known as a selfish node. The selfish node plays a vital role in the research and development of wireless sensor network. Few nodes may act as selfish nodes and will not assist in the data transmission. This causes poor performance of the network. These nodes are monitored by the watchdog nodes. They may fail in detecting and transferring the information to the base station. In this paper a novel technique has been proposed called Collaborative Contact Based (CCB) watchdog technique for the detection of selfish node and it transfers the information to all other nodes in the network. This technique helps in improving the efficiency of the network performance by reducing and examining the accuracy in detecting them, which in turn improves the network's lifetime.
