Abstract

Maximizing the line efficiency is a critical problem in manufacturing systems, it is known as the assembly line balancing problem type E in which the best couple of the number of workstations and the cycle time that maximize the line efficiency must be found. In this paper, the authors propose an approach based on the genetic algorithm to tackle the SALBP type E. Three different SALBP problems are generated to test the proposed genetic algorithm and obtained results are compared with those obtained by the Hybrid Reactive Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure.
