Maximal abelian subgroups of compact simple Lie groups of type E

Abstract

We classify closed abelian subgroups of the automorphism group of a compact simple Lie algebra of type E whose centralizer has the same dimension as the dimension of the subgroup. These include maximal abelian subgroups and Jordan subgroups. We also describe Weyl groups of these abelian subgroups.
