Abstract

Surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome may, in many cases, need to address obstruction at the level of the palate and the base of tongue. By careful evaluation and a stepwise surgical approach, those individuals who require more aggressive advancement of the hypopharyngeal airway may be identified. Maxillary-mandibular advancement is an effective mechanism to maximize this airway space.
