Abstract

Urban intersections are faced with complex congestion problems and centralized control system has many drawbacks. To solve this problem, a relatively simple local control method - the maximum pressure (MP) control strategy is studied. Meanwhile, the simulation of the proposed MP control method is conducted. After analyzing the simulation results, it is found that MP control can realize the adaptive change of phase duration. The MP control makes the number of throughput vehicles at a high level and can stabilize the queue length within a certain range, ensuring the stability of the operation of the intersection. The control effect of MP is better than that of the fixed-time control.
