Abstract

The second-quantization formalism is used to investigate coefficients of fractional parentage for mixed configurations. These coefficients are shown to be proportional to reduced matrix elements of coupled creation operators; this proportionality makes their calculation straighforward. A prescription is given for the use of these coefficients which simplifies the calculation of matrix elements involving configurations with several open shells.
