Abstract

This collection – probably a hoard – of 93 Byzantine copper coins (1204-1341) together with a grosh of Ivan Alexander and an asper of the Golden Horde, was offered on the market by CNG in 1993. Dumbarton Oaks acquired 15 and the BnF 18 specimens. The detailed inventory, originally made by Peter Lampinen, is updated here. The “ CNG hoard” is thus added to the rare mid-fourteenth-century deposits known to now (Prilep, Longuet, Serres, Vidin, Pella). It differs from them by the mix of issues from the two Byzantine mints : Constantinople and Thessalonica.
