Abstract

This article presents the chopper based rotor side speed control of wound rotor induction motor (WRIM) with rotor resistance variation. In conventional rotor resistance speed control of WRIM has unbalance voltage issue, poor efficiency and fluctuation of rotor speed during unequal value of rotor resistance on rotor side. In order to overcome this issues, chopper based speed control of WRIM is established in this article. The Simulink model is used to test the performance of the WRIM with static rotor resistance control at various rotor resistances. The simulation results are presented to demonstrate the capability of WRIM's static rotor resistance control.
