Abstract

This contribution examines the role occupied by the teaching of freehand drawing following reform of Italy’s secondary school system. In particular, the article focuses on the issues raised by the shift from analogical to digital drawing tools. An overview of research conducted over the past decade is provided, which suggests some possible future directions. An important open question regards the adoption of a workshop-based approach as opposed to more traditional instructional training.
