Abstract

The rapid development of aviation in this country and the great interest shown by our young people should be a challenge to all teachers to make the most of its educational possibilities. The United States government has established pilot training schools in every section of the country, which are open to both college and noncollege students. Thousands of private pilots are now being trained, and the future program calls for lhe training of 30,000 pilots per year. The Air Youth of America, an organization sponsored by the National Aeronautics Association and Winthrop Rockefeller, is forming Model Airplane classes in every city in the country, and the membership is increasing very rapidly. In my own city of Wichita, Kansas, more than five hundred boys and girls have joined the classes. These classes are held in connection with the public schools, after school hours.
