Abstract

Mathematical modeling of electromagnetic mixing (EMM) in round semifinished products obtained on a semicontinuous caster at the Elektrostal’ Metallurgical Plant showed that the units developed for EMM in the mold and the zone where solidification of the casting is completed provide for mixing of the liquid phase of the ingot with maximum linear velocities in the range 0.5–0.9 m/sec. Calculated data on the solidification of semifinished products obtained by semi-continuous casting make it possible to determine the position of the liquid phase of the ingot in order to move the carriage of the EMM stator as solidification of the ingot proceeds.
