Abstract
By mathematical study of NMR two-dimensional chemical exchange spectroscopy (2D-EXSY), it has been found that the eigenvalues of the amplitude matrix A are always real, positive and do not exceed 1. These properties form a theoretical basis for the methods of evaluating kinetic constants from A by directly diagonalizing the matrix A and by directly expanding its logarithm In A. The conclusion is also valid for 2D nuclear Overhauser effect spectroscopy (NOESY).
