Abstract

A survey of mathematical programming in human geography is undertaken. To demonstrate its relevance in this field, particular attention focuses on model-building aspects rather than solution techniques per se. After a brief discussion of their underlying rationale, optimisation, a variety of aspects of mathematical programming such as linear programming, non-linear programming, duality, parametric and sensitivity analysis, and the temporal dimension, are considered.
