Abstract
In projecting the times at which the elements fail on the time axis for operation of the system, a flow of failures is constructed which is stochastically similar to the flow of failures when the system is in use. On the time axis for operation of the system, we also plot the times at which routine preventive maintenance occurs (preventive inspections and replacement of elements). If the moment of failure of an element coincides with the moment at which preventive maintenance occurs, then this failure of the element is not considered a failure of the system.
