Abstract

A mathematical model of the regeneration of an ion-exchange resin in a fixed-bed apparatus is developed. The model takes into account the diffusion mechanism of ion exchange, the linearity of the sorption isotherm, and the longitudinal dispersion in the flowing solution. The problem is solved by the Fourier method. The adequacy of the model is confirmed by experimental investigation of the regeneration of KU-2-8 cation-exchange resin with a hydrochloric acid solution.
