Abstract

The excitations caused by the road roughness is the main parameter for the vertical vibrations generated in a vehicle. Their influence in the ride comfort of passengers and vehicle stability is high. It is essential to quantify road excitations so that they could be utilized for vehicle dynamic analysis. In this research paper, an in depth literature survey was carried over regarding the road profile measurement techniques and road roughness representation methods. It was found that the Power Spectral Density(PSD) representation of the road profile has been widely employed by researchers. Based on the ISO standard 8608:2016, the roads were classified and the road profile equation available in the literature survey was studied. A simulink model was created for the road profile equation. The road profiles for different road types and varying vehicle velocities were generated using the simulink model. The road profiles thus created can be utilized for vehicle dynamicanalysis.
