Abstract

Large adaptive mirrors are used in various optical systems. In fabricating such mirrors or controlling them, repeated measurements of their optical surfaces are carried out. This paper describes a simple, cheap, fairly accurate, and rapid method specially developed to study the characteristics of these mirrors. Its implementation requires only a digital video camera, a stop with auxiliary illumination by scattered light, and software. An image of the optical-surface geometry appears on the monitor screen every 0.5sec during the operation of the system. The program uses a mathematical model created for the modified Hartmann method.
