Abstract

The study is concerned with the development of a mathematical model and computer program for simulation and optimum design of a VTE desalting plant. The “module approach” is adopted in developing the complete system which is divided into four major subsystems, namely, multistage evaporator process simulation, engineering design simulation, capital and operating cost calculation, and optimum searching processes. The scientific and technical basis of the methods and techniques developed by this study are discussed in detail. The essentials and application of the computer program are illustrated. It is demonstrated that for a specified production capacity an optimum design of a desalting plant can be directly and automatically generated by the program.
