Abstract

This article describes a project-based situation in mathematics, with 12- and 13-year-old students in two schools in Edinburgh, Scotland. The main theme of the project, its results, and some afterthoughts are presented, in an attempt to illustrate differences in the behavior and attitudes between the 12-year-olds (last year of primary school) and the 13-year-olds (first year of secondary school).
