Abstract

Communication is important in any workplace, but particularly in a maternity setting. Mothers and relatives can be distressed and tired during labour, and effective and safe delivery is reliant on health professionals and mother being able to communicate well over the stages and techniques of birth. This article aims to help maternity care assistants and other health support workers improve their communication skills and their ability to interact with patients in a way that improves standards of care.
