Abstract

(JAMA. 2018;320(1):89–91) While maternal preexisting type 2 diabetes (T2D) and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) diagnosed before 26 weeks gestation have previously been associated with increased risk of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the child, it is unclear whether maternal preexisting type 1 diabetes (T1D) is associated with an increased risk of ASD. This study examined the associations between risk of ASD in offspring and maternal T1D, T2D, and GDM.
