Abstract

A woman smoking 10 or more cigarettes a day from the fourth month of pregnancy was a highly significant predictor of behavioural problems, including delinquency in children 16 yrs later, social class controlled. Intervening health indicators of this risk are difficult to identify, and it is speculated that the linkage is provided by unmeasured personality factors.
