Abstract

This is the second of two articles discussing the findings of an extended literature review undertaken to explore whether midwives are missing a health promotion opportunity within the care of obese pregnant women. This integrative review analysed 36 primary and secondary research papers to elicit emerging themes. The impact of maternal obesity on service provision and the value of measuring and monitoring gestational weight gain were discussed in part 1 of this article ( Williams, 2012 ). Part 2 explores the value of antenatal interventions and some of the underlying issues around obesity, which may contribute towards the challenges of addressing this important public health issue. The concluding section will identify areas for practice development and further research.
