Abstract

This article explores maternal–fetal attachment from a psychological perspective. The literature suggests that the fetus does acquire an identity of its own which is realised by the mother, thereby creating an attachment bond. Thus, grief will be experienced when a loss is suffered. The losses examined here are spontanteous abortion and stillbirth.
