Abstract

Combined cycle power generation, using pressurized fluidized bed combustion or coal gasification, is potentially a very efficient way of producing electricity. Unfortunately, high temperature corrosion, especially sulphidation, of alloys used in the construction of such plants is a problem which must be taken into account in design specification. This paper considers the principles of sulphidation and why it can be encountered in combined cycle power generation plant. The main requirements for metallic components in such plants, and alloys suitable for their manufacture, are identified.
