Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper focuses on material handling as a “system of systems”. U.S. Navy material handling issues are large, global and complex. These issues greatly affect ship interoperability and mission now and in the future. Following a discussion of current material handling methods, future Fleet logistic system needs will be addressed. Additionally, the paper will show the requirement for considering material handling early in the ship's design phase and from a global perspective.
