Renewable energy facilitates emission reductions, but its deployment also presents challenges. Recently in <i>Joule</i>, Cole et al. examined barriers to establishing a 100% renewable energy power system in the United States, but land-use-change impacts of renewable energy deployment on biodiversity conservation were unexplored and warrant interdisciplinary investigation.
