Abstract

We report a case study of mastoid cavity aural myiasis in an urban developed setting and review the relevant literature. Retrospective case report and review of the English literature via PubMed. English-language articles concerning aural myiasis and mastoid cavity myiasis were included. Two previous case reports of mastoid cavity myiasis were identified and analyzed. Neglected mastoid cavity care, low socioeconomic status, poor personal hygiene, homelessness, and chronic suppurative otitis media are likely contributing factors to this uncommon presentation occurring in an urban setting.
