Abstract

Palm vein biometrie authentication has become a research trend in these past few years. This is due to the robustness and distinctiveness properties of the palm vein that make it suitable to represents human unique identity. This paper presents an alternative authentication method by using master and child key generation from palm vein. A suitable method of extracting the region of interest (ROI) from the palm vein is also proposed in order to gain high authentication accuracy. In this research, palm vein is extracted by using Competitive Hand valley detection (CHVD) method. The master and child key is generated based on improved method adapted from the Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 32(BIP32) — Ed25519 scheme. The proposed method is aimed to increase the security of the authentication system by applying one time used key concept where the child key will only be used once for authentication and then it will be deleted. A new key that has been generated from the master key will be used for the next authentication. Therefore, it is hard for attacker to attack and guess the key used for the authentication.
