Abstract

Leukocytic counts of the inflammatory exudate in 25 cases of nonspecific ulcerative colitis demonstrated that mast cells occurred significantly more often in this condition than in other colonic inflammations. Mast cell secretions would likely exaggerate and prolong the exudative inflammatory reaction in persons with nonspecific ulcerative colitis.
