Abstract

This study compared mast cell densities and percentage of intact and degranulated mast cells in chronic periodontitis of non−HIV-infected and HIV-infected individuals undergoing highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). Study Design: The gingival samples included 10 non−HIV-infected and 10 HIV-infected individuals who had chronic periodontitis. Samples were collected, processed, and stained with 0.3% toluidine blue O. Densities of mast cells and percentages of intact and degranulated mast cells were obtained.
