Abstract

Recent deep‐sea dredging conducted from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) research vessel 5. P. Lee recovered samples of massive sulfide deposits from the southern Gorda Ridge axis off northern California. The deposits were recovered from the flank of an uplifted dome in the center of the sediment‐filled Escanaba Trough near 40°45′N. These samples represent the first massive sulfide deposit discovered within the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone.
